A3 ILLUSTRATOR VECTOR SOFTWARE

This poster was made using the photoshop poster on Adobe Illustrator. Just like the photoshop poster, I set up an A3 portrait file with a 300 dpi. The poster used a template of an image taken by myself of The Necropolis in the East of Glasgow on a sunny day. The image portrays a contrast of emotions through the clear blue skies and the sun beaming down onto the grey, dark graveyard. I was inspired by Neville Brody for my poster design. He used bold and uneven sized shapes and letters to create unique work. For the vector design I used my previous photoshop poster as a template. To put my image on a psd file, the image was opened on photoshop and dragged and dropped onto the the a3 poster file. To create to new layers, I selected layer then new. Each layer was numbered. For example, Layer 1, Layer 2. I resized my image to fit my A3 poster selecting edit, free transformation and adjusting the size. I held the shift button down so that the image resized to scale. To create the text for the image I selected text, drew a text box. Once I typed in my text, I changed the font Britannic Bold and was inspired by Brody to used various sizes. I didn’t apply text effects however, I changed the opacity of certain words to create a shadow effect. I used the pen tool to outline my poster and adjusted the colours to fit the brief. I also used the paint brush on the crosshatch setting to add smaller details and texture to the image. To prepare the image for my blog, I used file, export as and switched the file to a jpeg and changed the resolution to 300 so that the quality was the most suitable for the blog.

A3 PHOTOSHOP BITMAP SOFTWARE

To create the A3 poster, I used Adobe photoshop. The page was set up by selecting file, new, A3 with a portrait setting and dpi at 300. The poster used a template of an image taken by myself of The Necropolis in the East of Glasgow on a sunny day. The image portrays a contrast of emotions through the clear blue skies and the sun beaming down onto the grey, dark graveyard. I was inspired by Neville Brody for my poster design. I didn’t apply text effects however, I changed the opacity of certain words to create a shadow effect. I duplicated the image to create a symmetrical image. The quick selection tool to delete certain parts of the image. I changed the colours to fit the brief of red, white and black. I used the square tool to add a range of rectangular shapes to my poster. To prepare the image for the blog, I saved it as a jpeg and changed to size to 150 in resolution and with of 6. This made the image suitable to upload to a blog.

RESEARCH – INSPIRATIONAL GRAPHICS

These graphics are inspirational to me due to the modern take on simple images. For example the poster of the man wearing glasses has an interesting oil spill effect over the image to introduce metallic colours onto a black and white image. The contrast of colours makes this graphic standout most tome. I am also draw to the poster at the bottom of this collage using a variety of colours with mainly primary colours. The colours are spilling out of the shapes to generate a contemporary image.

RESEARCH – I LOVE POSTER DESIGNS

I like the use of negative space on the “I Heart Planners” poster. The way the writing is placed at the top left hand corner is simplistic and modern. I also like all the photos that have incorporated different shapes to symbolise a heart image. This makes the posters eye-catching and unique against all the others. The use of bold colours on the “I heart 80s” poster is bold and dramatic, which in return creates a stand out poster.

RESEARCH – MILTON GLASER

Milton Glaser is uses bold, block colours alongside simple drawings makes for interesting, modern and one of a kind work. I am inspired by the “Milton Glaser” poster at the top of this collage. I like the block shapes, over lapping each other used to create the letters. This generates a quirky and contemporary piece of art. This technique is also seen on the “Aretha” poster. This suggest this technique could be a signature technique for Glaser. My personal favourite poster is the one seen near the bottom left corner of this collage with the elderly man with colourful swirls behind him. The contrasting tones are eye-catching and fascinating to look at.

RESEARCH – PAULA SCHER

Paula Scher uses interesting, contrasting colours in her stand out posters. I am particularly drawn to the “OR” poster in the top right-hand corner of this collage due to the use of red and green. The colours completely, clash. However, the colours used work well to create a unique piece of work. The use of clashing colours is also used in a yellow and pink poster seen on this collage. The contrasting colours, alongside the composition of this poster generate an eye-catching piece. My favourite poster seen on this collage is the “M” poster. The interesting form used in the line drawing of the M is simple and aesthetically pleasing.

RESEARCH – NEVILLE BRODY

Neville Brody uses a range of bold colours and shapes, which makes his design work so striking and interesting. I like the design with the altered Union Jack. The flag has been slightly changed, however still recognisable. I also really like both the Coca Cola designs on my collage. The red one relates to an optical image. This image matched with the bold use of red makes this poster stand out the most against others. The black poster is a lot more simplistic. I like the flowing lines at the bottom of the poster. This composition guides the viewer’s eyes straight to the poster. The “CUTTING EDGE” poster to me because I like the way the title is at an angle in the centre of the body text. This continues the modern look found in a lot of Brody’s work.

RESEARCH – DAVID CARSON

The pepsi can and bottle posters stand out to me the most because of the way Carson has used the wording to create an image. I also like the way he has highlighted the mains words in orange. I like the poster with the crashing wave. The wording in this photo is interesting as it is broken up but still easy to understand. I also like the contrast between the chaotic wording and the relaxing wave and sunset in the background. I like the Marilyn Manson poster because of the way the wording is running over the main picture that is Marilyn Manson. His name is placed on either side of his mouth helping both the image and the picture stand out.
